{My name is Troy. I'm Southern.}
Dallas/Ft.Worth's most persnickety spray tanner, y'all! I am a straight up Southern Belle: charming, judgemental, and NOT afraid to self-medicate.
Passionate reader, wannabe writer, I love baking with butter and planting things in the dirt. Amen.

Playing favorites is hard. Favorite book? {Couldn’t possibly!} Favorite movie? {Maybe ten best?} I do have a favorite poem: one that feels like a part of me now. Years ago I printed it out on deep azure paper and stapled it to the wall above my desk. I still come across that scrap tucked in the pages of my journal now and then, but the words are never far from my consciousness. Such a comfort; whispered fervently, mostly in the car or whenever they come to mind. It never fails to shake me loose of whatever nasty, nagging thing I have running through my head that day about the girl who’s always doing the best she can with what she has. {Grace}

I Am Running into a New Year
i am running into a new year
and the old years blow back
like a wind
that i catch in my hair
like strong fingers like
all my old promises and
it will be hard to let go
of what i said to myself
about myself
when i was sixteen and
twenty-six and thirty-six
even thirty-six but
i am running into a new year
and i beg what i love and
i leave to forgive me

If you think might be meant for you, it is my dear.
Amen.

So many things I wish my thirtysomething self could whisper to my teenage idiot baby self. I have always loved when Oprah quotes her mentor Maya Angelo saying, “When you know better, you do better.”
Trying to remember that I can impart MYSELF some grace for mistakes I’ve made. Doing better.
Amen.

Two lovely Southern ladies, a FAB food blog, and WAIT…there’s jewelry? {Bliss} Someone is going to win one of these custom made pieces I have been lusting after. It could be you! Grapevine girls doin’ their thing makes me feel lucky just to be in the club.
Amen.
October in my hometown is the best place I know to be. My heart gets happier just thinking about it!
Amen.

…General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, OLD frRiEnDS. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion… LoVE ActUaLLY is all around.
Amen.
So this is love. As demanding and nourishing and as difficult as it can be, and as strong and as wise as it makes you become. There are no rewards for staying when you would rather leave. And so you let love come perch upon your shoulder and you do not turn it away. You do the tango.
After a recent tanning intervention by the Skin Cancer Foundation’s Senior Vice President, Dr. Deborah S. Sarnoff, the cast of the widely popular reality TV show “Jersey Shore” has made a public statement that they will no longer partake in sun tanning. A smart move by the by Skin Cancer Foundation, Sarnoff was able to reach out to these reality TV celebrities who seem to influence the actions and desires of thousands of kids, teens and young adults nationwide.Sarnoff spoke of the many dangers of sun tanning and offered a sunless tanning solution to the group – spray tanning. This safer alternative does not pose the risk of skin cancer like the many forms of regular sun tanning. The “Jersey Shore” cast has officially made the switch to spray tanning, which will hopefully encourage their fans to follow suit.
